On Friday, 8 May 2026, Centenary Bank donated sanitation materials to Mchinji District Council in support of the Presidential directive on sanitation.

The donated items included waste bins, gumboots, shovels and wheelbarrows, among others, to help improve cleanliness and sanitation in the district.

Mchinji District Commissioner Reinghard Chavula received the donation on behalf of the Council and thanked Centenary Bank for being the first institution to respond to the call.

“The contribution from Centenary Bank is a strong demonstration of partnership and corporate responsibility. We sincerely appreciate this support, as the sanitation materials provided will greatly enhance cleanliness efforts in our markets and public spaces,” said Chavula.

She said the donated materials will help improve waste management and keep markets and public places cleaner, leading to better health and safer trading environments for communities.

Centenary Bank Mchinji Branch Manager Faliot Amanzi said the Bank remains committed to environmental sustainability and protecting the environment for future generations.

He added that environmental stewardship continues to guide the Bank’s daily operations and long-term sustainability goals.

Chavula also encouraged other organisations to support government development initiatives, saying partnerships between the private sector and government are important in improving people’s lives.

Centenary Bank Reports 383% Profit Growth in 2025

Lilongwe, 4 December 2025 – In response to the severe hunger crisis caused by poor rainfall during the 2024–2025 farming season, Centenary Bank has donated K5 million through Tiwale Limodzi Foundation to support vulnerable families in Nambuma. The donation reached 70 households, including the elderly and other vulnerable community members, who received maize relief.

Presenting the donation on behalf of the Bank, Marketing & Customer Experience Manager, Linda Nkosi, emphasized that the contribution is part of the Bank’s social mission to transform lives and uplift communities. She handed over the support to Brian Odhiambo, CEO of Tiwale Limodzi Foundation, who expressed gratitude for the timely assistance.

“This contribution comes at a critical time for families affected by drought and poor weather conditions,” Nkosi said. “As a Bank, we are committed to supporting communities in need and making a lasting societal impact.”
Tiwale Limodzi Foundation, which means “Let’s Shine Together,” is the social arm of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe. The Foundation coordinates outreach to marginalized communities, focusing on social development, education, health, and climate-resilient initiatives.

“This support will go a long way in helping the affected households,” Odhiambo said. “We appreciate Centenary Bank for partnering with us to bring relief to those in need and we kindly request those that can still help to please do so.

The maize distribution exercise is part of a broader effort by both the Bank and the Foundation to respond to Malawi’s national hunger disaster, following the President’s declaration earlier this year.

Civil Servants General Terms and Conditions
1. Declaration and Authorization by Applicant

I, the applicant, declare and agree that:

1. The information that I have provided for the application is correct.
2. I have seen the schedule of information in Part A setting out the full details of everything I have to pay if the loan is granted and they are the same as those that I was shown before I signed the agreement.
3. I understand the terms of this agreement as explained to me in English.
4. I have read the agreement or it has been read to me.
5. Where the instalments are deducted from my salary, I acknowledge that I may not unilaterally cancel that deduction until the loan has been repaid in full.

By signing this agreement, I give Centenary Bank Limited permission to:
a. Contact anyone to check that the information I have given in Part A is correct.
b. Obtain details from any party about my financial status and banking details, including a credit record and payment history.
c. Give information about this loan to any party, including the credit bureau.
d. Assign its right, title, and interest herein to any party or entity nominated by Centenary Bank Malawi.
e. Report details to the Malawi Police or similar organization where fraud is committed.
f. Forward marketing material and offerings of other products of Centenary Bank Malawi to me.

2. Application and Approval

You apply for a loan by completing and signing this document. Only when Centenary Bank Malawi approves the loan and pays it out to you will this document become a binding agreement between Centenary Bank Malawi and you.

3. Payment and Approval

After Centenary Bank Malawi has approved the loan application, the loan will be paid into the bank account indicated in Part A. You agree that you cannot hold Centenary Bank Malawi responsible for any damage or loss caused by transferring the loan into the indicated account.
If payment is not received within 72 hours, please refer to the nearest Centenary Bank Branch or Corporate Office, and upon providing proof, you may elect to cancel this agreement.

4. Interest Rate

Interest charged on the loan will be at the fixed rate, calculated and capitalized over the reduced balance.
Should you fail to make a payment on the due date, or where Centenary Bank Malawi grants you an extension for payment, interest on the full outstanding amount will be capitalized monthly at the Bank’s discretion and charged at the fixed percentage referred to in Part A.
If legal action is required for recovery, Centenary Bank Malawi shall be entitled to claim interest at the agreed fixed percentage.

5. Cooling-off Period

Once the loan amount has been paid to you, this contract is in effect and you are obliged to repay the full contractual amount to Centenary Bank Malawi.
However, Centenary Bank Malawi allows a 10 working day “cool-off” period.

6. Insurance

Credit life cover provides for settlement of the loan in the event of untimely occurrences such as death or permanent disability.
There is no insurance cover for disability, retrenchment, dismissal, or loss of employment if the borrower’s arrears or charges predate the insured event.

7. Changes

This agreement is the only agreement between you and Centenary Bank Malawi. Any changes must be made in writing.

8. Fees

All fees (Origination fees, Credit Reference Bureau costs, Insurance, and embedded funeral cover) will be charged upfront.
Collection costs will be charged as per the ruling rate schedules.

9. Repayment

After disbursement, you will owe Centenary Bank Malawi the full contractual amount as set out in Part A.
This must be repaid in equal instalments as shown.
Repayments will first pay legal costs (if any), then penalty interest (if any), followed by total cost of credit, and lastly the outstanding balance.

10. Early Repayment

The administration/origination fee is non-refundable and will not be discounted on a pro-rata basis upon early settlement.
You may settle this agreement at any time by paying the unpaid balance, interest, and any other charges due up to the date of settlement, having obtained a settlement quotation from the Bank.

11. Default and Acceleration

Centenary Bank Limited may immediately demand payment of the full outstanding amount if you:
1. Commit a breach of this agreement or an act of insolvency.
2. Make a false representation during application.
3. Do anything that prejudices Centenary Bank Malawi’s rights under this agreement.
4. Lose employment where instalments are deducted from your salary.
5. The Bank may deduct all outstanding amounts from the applicant’s terminal benefits up to 30%, or any final monies owed by the employer.

Exercising this right does not limit other legal rights available to Centenary Bank Limited

12. Allowances

Failure by Centenary Bank Limited to act on default does not waive its right to take future legal action or exercise any other right.

13. Jurisdiction

This agreement is subject to the laws and jurisdiction of Malawi.

14. Obligations Regarding Disclosure of Personal Information

Centenary Bank Malawi may provide non-public personal information to non-affiliated third parties performing services or marketing on behalf of the Bank, in compliance with the Microfinance Act of Malawi [Paragraph 17(2)].
All such third parties must maintain confidentiality under contractual agreement.
Except as required by law, Centenary Bank Malawi shall not disclose your non-public personal information without your written consent.

15. Addresses

All notices from Centenary Bank Malawi will be sent to your address as reflected in Part A.
Notices sent by registered post will be deemed received within 10 days.
Any change of address must be communicated in writing.

PART D — Direct Standing Order Authorisation (Secondary Collection Method)

1. I, as named in Part A, authorize the Lender to draw against my bank account if salary deductions fail for any reason.
2. The monthly instalment(s) will be deducted on the specified day of each month, beginning the month following an unsuccessful payroll deduction.
3. All withdrawals will be treated as though signed personally and processed electronically.
4. Bank charges relating to this instruction are my responsibility.
5. If I am paid weekly or fortnightly, instalments may be collected proportionally.
6. If there are insufficient funds, the Bank may recover any balance until the instalment is paid in full.
7. I will not change my bank account while the loan with Centenary Bank Malawi remains active.

PART E — Credit Life Insurance Policy Terms and Conditions
1. Overview

This policy is underwritten by Smile Life Insurance Company Limited and provides benefits in the event of the Life Assured’s death or permanent disability.
All claims under this policy will be paid directly to Centenary Bank Malawi to settle any outstanding loan balance.

2. Cover Period

-Cover coincides with the loan tenure (maximum 60 months or until age 70, whichever comes first).
-Cover begins on the loan disbursement date.
Entry age: 18–60 years.

3. Benefits

a. Death Benefit (Life Cover)
Upon the Life Assured’s death, Smile Life shall pay the outstanding loan balance to Centenary Bank.
An additional MK150,000 will be paid to the named beneficiary upon submission of required documents.

b. Permanent Disability Cover
Payable if the Life Assured becomes permanently unable to work due to injury or illness:

-A six-month deferred period applies.
-Three-month waiting period for natural causes (none for accidents).
-Must be certified by a qualified medical practitioner.
-Employer confirmation of absence due to disability is required.

4. Exclusions for Disability Benefits

No payment will be made for:
a. Disability occurring before policy commencement.
b. Disability arising while the member has been unemployed for more than six months.

5. General Exclusions

No benefits will be paid for:
a. Intentional self-inflicted injury, suicide, or attempt within the first 12 months.
b. Airborne pursuits other than as a passenger in a certified aircraft.
c. Participation in war, riot, strike, civil commotion, or military/police action.

6. Expiry of Cover

Cover terminates on the earlier of:
a. Loan repayment in full.
b. Cessation of premium payments.
c. Payout of a qualifying benefit.
d. Default for reasons not covered by the policy.

7. Claims Procedure

In the event of death:

1. Certified copy of death certificate or official letter confirming date and cause of death.
2. Certified copy of insured’s ID.
3. Completed claimant statement by next of kin.
4. Loan account statement showing loan details and remaining term.

In the event of disability:

1. Certified copy of insured’s ID.
2. Confidential medical disability report.
3. Loan account statement with relevant details.

Claims must be submitted in writing to:
The Principal Officer, Centenary Bank Malawi,
P.O. Box 31567, Ekistics House, City Centre, Lilongwe.

All claims must be submitted within 90 days of receipt of the claim form.

8. Declaration and Signature

I hereby apply for Credit Life Insurance cover in relation to my loan from Centenary Bank Limited
I confirm that I have read and understood all documentation, terms, and cost details contained herein.

The bank's Managing Director Godfrey Byekwaso made the commitment in Lilongwe when, in partnership with mobile payment platform, PayChangu, launched an instant Direct Bank Transfer Application. 

He said through the bank's mission of transforming lives through inclusive, convenient, simplified, and sustainable financial solutions, they are expanding access to digital finance for more Malawians — wherever they are and whatever they earn.

Chief Executive Officer for Pay Changu, Morgan Tembo, said the launch of this application directly addresses one of the key obstacles that businesses have faced in Malawi for far too long—delayed settlements and restrictive banking corridors that slow down commerce and limit growth.

He said the application is also key in financial inclusion.

Centenary Bank, in collaboration with Airtel Money, has introduced two innovative digital financial services — Cente Fees and Cente Value — designed to make everyday transactions easier and more accessible for Malawians.

These services are part of the Bank’s ongoing commitment to bring convenience, efficiency, and inclusion to customers across the country.

Speaking during the launch, Centenary Bank Managing Director, Mr. Godfrey Byekwaso, emphasized the Bank’s mission to make banking simpler:

“We promised to make banking easier and more inclusive, and these two products are helping us do exactly that,” he said.

Cente Fees allows parents and guardians to pay school fees directly from their Centenary Bank accounts using Airtel Money — removing the need to visit the bank or the school.

Cente Value, on the other hand, enables Airtel Money agents to buy electronic value and transfer funds seamlessly between their Airtel wallets and Centenary Bank accounts — all from their mobile phones.

Airtel Money Managing Director, Ms. Thokozani Kamkondo Sande, welcomed the partnership, highlighting its role in supporting education and improving access to digital financial tools:

“Education is key to Malawi’s growth, and with many people using Airtel Money, we believe this partnership will make life easier for parents and agents alike,” she said.

She also encouraged users to keep their personal identification numbers (PINs) secure at all times.

Customers are already embracing the services. Edwin Watch, a parent, shared:

“I’ve used Cente Fees for two terms now. It’s very convenient. I don’t need to travel to make payments anymore.”

Bridget Mkhundi, an Airtel Money and Centenary Bank agent, also applauded the launch:

“Before, I had to walk long distances just to get value. Now I can do everything easily from where I am.”

Centenary Bank and Airtel Money Introduce Easy Way to Pay Fees and Access Value

Our Old Town Branch in Lilongwe visited Temwani Chilenga's Zoe Orphanage,in Area 25, donating essential items to transform lives. The team, led by Branch Manager, Chawezi Longwe donated assorted items including bags of maize, food items along with detergents and hygiene products.  The Branch Manager also encouraged staff to continue supporting or visiting the orphanage on a voluntary basis. 

The orphanage, home to over 100 children, expressed deep gratitude, with its founder, Temwani Chilenga, personally thanking the branch for the generous support. . This initiative is part of our mission of transforming lives beyond financial services.

Old Town Branch Supports Zoe orphanage with essential donations, encourages continued voluntary engagement

Our Mzuzu Branch visited Ekwendeni School for the Blind, under the Livingstonia Synod in Ekwendeni, Mzimba, donating essential supplies to support children in need. Branch Manager Linly Ng'ambi led the team, bringing bags of maize, food items, sanitary pads, detergents, and hygiene products. She said, "As a bank, we believe in looking beyond our immediate business interests to identify and address the needs of our community. After careful consideration and consultation with local leaders, we recognized the Ekwendeni School for the Blind as an institution doing incredible work under challenging circumstances. Today's donation is our way of saying, 'we see you, we support you, and we stand with you in your mission.'"

The branch staff interacted with the children, some of whom expressed their wishes to become future bankers.

The Director of the school expressed gratitude, saying the supplies will significantly contribute to the students' well-being.

Mzuzu Branch supports Ekwendeni School for the blind

Centenary Bank Limited has partnered with the Financial Market Dealers Association (FIMDA) to strengthen the country's financial future with financial support of K2,000,000, going towards FIMDA's 2023 lakeshore conference. 

Jim Kalua, Head of Treasury at Centenary Bank, affirmed their commitment to supporting positive changes in Malawi's financial world. He said “the bank's sponsorship of K2,000,000 signifies trustworthiness and reliability, demonstrating the bank's commitment to its customers and the nation. He further added that “this partnership reflects Centenary Bank's mission to make people's lives better, as it aligns with Malawi's national vision MW2063. What makes this moment even more special is the fact that our partnership is unfolding under a new brand - Centenary Bank Limited”.

FIMDA's President, Leslie Fatch, recognized the importance of this sponsorship, particularly during these challenging times and thanked the bank for the gesture. He said “Centenary Bank, being a key financial player in Malawi, plays a vital role within FIMDA, supporting financial inclusion and market stability. We expect a fruitful lakeshore conference, and we are enthusiastic to seeing the successful implementation of MIP-1 Pillar 1, which we are here to catalyze into fruition”.

The conference's theme, "The Role of Financial Markets in the Attainment of MIP-1 Pillar 1," highlights the significance of Pillar One: Agricultural Productivity and Commercialization, a key part of Malawi's development”.

The conference, scheduled for October 14th to 16th at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi will bring together representatives from various financial sectors, including markets, banks, fund managers, pensions, foreign, and local dealers. Dr. Thomas C. Munthali, Head of the National Planning Commission, will provide valuable insights as the keynote speaker.

Corporate entities interested in advancing the agricultural agenda are also welcome to participate. This conference is expected to encourage discussions and collaborations that will drive positive changes in Malawi's financial landscape.
